The Golden State Warriors didn’t give the San Antonio Spurs a chance the night the NBA set a new attendance record. Jordan Poole came off the bench to lead the California team with 25 points and six assists, while Stephen Curry added 15 points in 23 minutes. Tre Jones, on the other hand, was the best in San Antonio, with 21 points and five decisive passes.
In the first quarter, the teams struggled to score and, for a long time, scoring was low by today’s standards. However, the Warriors rallied and led 17 to 4, with seven points from Curry. Subsequently, the Spurs fought back and narrowed the difference to four. But every time the San Antonio stopped, the guests hit back with a triple.
The San Francisco team led 33-28 going into the second period, but Donte DiVincenzo led the Warriors to extend the lead. After his 3-pointer, Golden State led 49 to 36. Josh Richardson hit two runs followed by threes, but the defending champions answered with five straight runs by Anthony Lamb. At halftime, the Warriors led 74-60.
Coming back from half-time, Spurs dropped to six, but the reaction was short-lived. In short, almost nothing. Four minutes later, the Warriors’ lead was 18. Then it went to 25 in the third period. Already in the last quarter, with the field full of reserves, Golden State only managed the scoreboard to confirm the result.
