The 10 cheapest pickups in Brazil in 2023

The compacts are at the top of the list and are the only ones under R$ 100,000, while the medium-sized ones impress with their figures

By Fernando Miragaya

There are people who like pickup trucks regardless of the scenario. It could be walking around the city, to convey that adventurous image. Or to work and transport all kinds of goods. There are also those who need to bear the pace of the field. For all tastes, we have selected the 10 cheapest pickups in the country in 2023. You can check out the list of the 10 most expensive ones here.

In this list, it is impressive that only two are less than R $ 100 thousand. Just the only compact still on sale in the country. Among midsize vehicles, many models were only warranted with single cab and/or manual transmission configurations. See now the cheapest pickup trucks in 2023.

  • Suggested public prices in the third week of January 2023 except for the state of SΓ£o Paulo and the Manaus free trade zone;
  • We only consider the cheapest version of each model, with the exception of the cabin versions.

1 – Volkswagen Saveiro – for BRL 91,800, it is the cheapest pickup of 2023

Photos | VW/Disclosure
  • Version: robust
  • Engine: 1.6 16V flexible
  • Power and torque: 116/106 hp and 16.1/15.4 kgfm
  • Transmission: five-speed manual
  • Front-wheel drive
  • cabin: single

If Saveiro can win anything from Strada, it’s the price. The Volkswagen model is built on the MQB platform of the retired Gol and is the cheapest pick-up in Brazil in 2023. This in the work version, the Robust CS with a very rational equipment.

Air, electric steering, height-adjustable seat, electric locks and windows, knife key and four-wheel disc brakes are among the standard elements. Furthermore, starting from this option the Saveiro is equipped with the EA 211 1.6 16V engine up to 116 HP.

It’s the cheapest pickup of 2023, but it’s far from being the best-selling. In fact, quite far. While Strada sold more than 112,000 units in 2022, Saveiro sold β…• of that, with just over 23,000 units.

2 – Fiat Strada – BRL 99,990

Cheaper Strada Pickups

  • Version: Resistance
  • Engine: 1.4 8V flexible
  • Power and torque: 88/85 hp and 12.5/12.4 kgfm
  • Transmission: five-speed manual
  • Front-wheel drive
  • cabin: single

Sales champion of the segment for the last 22 consecutive years and currently the most marketed passenger car in the country, it is also one of the cheapest pickups of 2023. The Strada starts from the R$ 100,000 limit in its option considered more proletarian.

But to have the cheapest pick-up when it comes to the Strada, you have to surrender to the old 1.4 Fire engine, which is only available in this configuration. Also, with the exception of stability and traction controls, the Endurance is more equipment-shy than the Saveiro.

To get an idea, electric windows and locks, brake light and even height adjustment of the driver’s seat only in the Worker Pack, a set of options that costs R$ 4,190. This package also includes an alarm, electrical lockout on the bucket, crankcase protector, and marine hood.

3 – Renault Oroch – BRL 113,600

  • Version: professional
  • Motor: flexible 1.6.16V
  • Power and torque: 120/118 hp and 16.2 kgfm
  • Transmission: six-speed manual
  • Front-wheel drive
  • Double cabin

Despite having inaugurated the medium-compact category, the Oroch (in the photo, in its Outsider version) lives in the shadow of the Fiat Toro – and will probably also be in the shadow of the future Chevrolet Montana. The way the pickup, which was remodeled last year, is to be among the cheapest in 2023 and attract with its cost-benefit ratio.

In this case, the Renault copy in its Pro version offers stability and traction controls, ramp assistance, air conditioning, electro-hydraulic steering, front windows and electric locks. It also has a gear shift indicator and Eco driving mode, elements that may be of interest to those who need the pickup to function.

4 – Chevrolet Montana – BRL 134,400

  • Version: ZTL
  • Engine: turboflex 1.2.12V
  • Power and torque: 133/132 hp and 21.4/19.4 kgfm
  • Gearbox: six-speed automatic
  • Front-wheel drive
  • Double cabin

The second-generation Montana hasn’t even arrived for real and is already among the four cheapest pickup trucks in Brazil in 2023. It’s okay that this is the introductory presale price, but General Motors has only talked about the two most expensive so far versions, with automatic gearbox.

A variant with a six-speed manual gearbox will be launched until March, which is expected to have prices below R$ 130,000. The engine is standard for the pick-up line that wants to steal customers from Toro and SUVs: the three-cylinder turboflex used in the most complete options of the Tracker SUV.

Thus Montana also becomes the cheapest turbocharged pickup in Brazil in 2023. The official launch of the model takes place between the end of January and the beginning of February.

5 – Fiat Toro – BRL 146,990

  • Version: Endurance T270
  • Engine: 1.3.8V turboflex
  • Power and torque: 85/180 hp and 27.5 kgfm
  • Gearbox: six-speed automatic
  • Front-wheel drive
  • Double cabin

The second best-selling pick-up in the country will not have an easy life in 2023. This can already be understood from the drop in the ranking of the most affordable models, after the advent of Montana. Despite this, it continues to be the absolute leader in the segment and with a variety of versions that make it a point of reference in terms of cost/benefit and versatility.

Currently, the cheapest pickup in Toro’s 2023 lineup is the Endurance, with the stubborn 1.3 turbo engine. It already leaves the factory with traction, stability and hill control, six airbags, electronic front differential lock, air conditioning, electric trio and multimedia center with 7″ screen and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless connection.

6 – Toyota Hilux – BRL 226.790

Photos | Toyota/Disclosure
  • Version: 4Γ—4 MT
  • Engine: 2.8 16V turbodiesel
  • Power and torque: 204 hp and 42.8 kgfm
  • Transmission: six-speed manual
  • Traction: integral with reduced
  • cabin: single

The cheapest medium-sized pickup in Brazil in 2023 is also the sales leader in the segment. However, the lowest price is guaranteed by this version clearly aimed at fleet owners and direct sales.

So much so that the cheapest Hilux doesn’t even have a designation for this version and still uses the 2020 pre-facelift design, unlike the crew-cab options. The bumper is not painted either.

The equipment part follows rationality. It comes with three airbags, stability and traction controls, ramp assist, air conditioning, light sensor, steering wheel height and reach adjustments. Electric and acoustic windows, not even as an option.

7 – Ford Ranger – BRL 230.490

  • Version: XL 2.2 4Γ—4 MT
  • Engine: 2.2 16V turbodiesel
  • Power and torque: 160 hp and 40 kgfm
  • Transmission: six-speed manual
  • Traction: integral with reduced
  • cabin: single

Another option for fleet owners that stands out among the cheapest pickup trucks for 2023. The Ranger XL uses the least powerful Duratorq engine in the lineup and is the only one to have the single-cab variant – in addition to the cabin cruiser.

Here is more or less the list of standard items from the rival Hilux already mentioned here. It comes from Argentina with three airbags and controls for stability, traction, climbing, but also offers descent and trailer sway. Air, electric locks, rubber mat, sound with USB and knife key with remote control of the doors complete the padding.

8 – Ford Maverick – BRL 240.490

Ford Maverick Lariat FX4

  • Version: Lariat FX4
  • Engine: 2.0 16V turbo petrol
  • Power and torque: 253 hp and 39 kgfm
  • Gearbox: eight-speed automatic
  • Traction: integral on request
  • Double cabin

Despite being a niche pickup in Brazil, the Maverick manages to be among the 10 cheapest in the country. This contradiction is mirrored in Ford’s portfolio. The model launched last year is a bit smaller than the Ranger in size and capability, but ends up being more expensive.

With very functional accessories to transform the passenger compartment into a car and the bucket into a trunk, Maverick arrives from Mexico with the good Ecoboost petrol engine. In terms of equipment, seven airbags, stability, traction and climb control, rear view camera, dual-zone automatic climate control, power seats, face-to-face key and coded door opening.

9 – Nissan Frontier – BRL 246.490

Nissan Frontier S 2023

  • Version: S MT 4Γ—4
  • Engine: 2.3 16V turbodiesel
  • Power and torque: 163 hp and 43.3 kgfm
  • Transmission: six-speed manual
  • Traction: integral with reduced
  • Double cabin

Refurbished less than a year ago, the Frontier is guaranteed to be on the list of the cheapest pickup trucks in Brazil in 2023. The representative of the Japanese brand line is the S variant, with a manual transmission and a biturbodiesel engine strangled – the other configurations in the range generates 190 hp.

The Frontier in question is equipped with six airbags, electronic traction control, stability, ascent and descent, air conditioning with outlets for the rear seat, electric windows on the four doors, steering with hydraulic assistance, automatic pilot, among others.

10 – Mitsubishi L200 Triton – BRL 246.990

  • Version: GLS outdoor
  • Engine: 2.4 16V turbodiesel
  • Power and torque: 190 hp and 43.9 kgfm
  • Gearbox: five-speed automatic
  • Traction: integral with reduced
  • Double cabin

The Outdoor range is the L200 without the most recent facelift, adopted from the Triton Sport range. The vehicle assembled in CatalΓ£o (GO) closes the ranking of the cheapest pick-ups on the Brazilian market in 2023, replacing models such as the Chevrolet S10 and Volkswagen Amarok.

In terms of equipment, the L200 Triton Outdoor GLS offers “more of the same”. It has stability and traction control, hill start assistant, air conditioning, electric trio and multimedia center with connection to Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
