If it were an edible product, the Oscar, in its 95th edition, would carry the ingredients on the label: celebration of the arts, racial diversity, revisited classics and, yes, even renewal in the list of nominees, at least in the acting category. Past award winner for the aviator And Blue jasminefavorite actress in 2023 is Cate Blanchett, who, with tar reaches eighth nomination; while Michelle Williams gets her fifth shot at the statuette, per The fablemen. In addition, there are 16 acting nominees debuting in the Oscar dispute, as well as the return of veteran Judd Hirsch (people like us), who emerges, at the age of 87, with The Fabelmansand Angela Bassett (Tina) which places the first Marvel character (from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) in the dispute over the golden statuette. The party, hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel, is scheduled for March 12.

Even for veterans like Jamie Lee Curtis and Brendan Fraser, the Oscar comes with a new flavour: he, nominated by The whaleand Jamie, for the funny character of the intriguer All everywhere at once.

It was unthinkable years ago that the established Hollywood industry would include international names such as Ke Huy Quan, Hong Chau and Stephanie Hsu on the list, all nominated for supporting characters. Despite so much openness to renewal, Brazil, which had the opportunity to score in the categories of best short film (Sidereal) and also, by extension, in the documentary the territory, was left out. Also snubbed the actress Margot Robbie (da Babylon), who lost the Best Actress nomination to fellow Andrea Riseborough, Header to Leslie, about a chemically addicted woman capable of losing her entire lottery prize. Other broadcasts on the list came across the names of Paul Mescal (after sun) as well as black actor Brian Tyree Henry, supporting the film Ticketled by Jennifer Lawrence, in which Tyree plays a mechanic.

In the third edition of the Oscars, in the 1930s, Lewis Milestone, Best Director (and owner of Best Picture) brought the spotlight to No news on the frontwhich, in a new guise, reaches the 2023 edition: with German production, Nothing new on the frontabout World War I (available on Netflix) earned nine nominations, being entitled to twice as best film and best international film (Parasitetwo years ago, brought the only case of a double win). All everywhere at once, on the multiple fates of characters of Chinese origin, hits hard, leading the rankings with 11 nominations. Still in an arm of globalization, the winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes, Triangle of sadness, on the class struggle, has extended the stamp of auteur cinema in the Oscar list. A co-production between 10 countries, the film was nominated for screenwriter Swedish director Ruben Östlund (also nominated). The film is still in the list of 10 finalists.

With the unchallenged blockbusters shortlisted for Best Picture (Top Gun: nonconformistwith six nominations, and Avatar: The Way of Waterwith four), the list of nominees brought the expected visibility of feature films such as The Fabelmans, which garnered seven nominations (with Steven Spielberg, in his accumulated record of 12 nominations as producer, trailing only the late William Wyler, and still counting nine nominations for Best Director, just like Martin Scorsese). Two more films shine: Elvis (eight nominations) and Inisherin’s The Banshees, highlighted in nine categories, based on the plot of the dissolution of a long friendship.

Without competing for best director, Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge) enters the second contest as co-producer of Best Picture nominee, Elvis, who launches an ode to films about music and cinema (in which the brilliance of Babylon unconfirmed), which is completed by The Fabelmans and the film about Marilyn Monroe, blondewhich led the prudent position of the Academy (which votes for the Oscars), to limit, in the face of controversy, Ana de Armas’ nomination as best actress.

In the running for the title of best cinematography, Elvis projects the talent of Mandy Walker, only the third woman, in the history of the Oscars, to appear in the list. Desbravadora, a girl approached The quiet girl brought Ireland’s first nomination for Best International Production. In the female and feminist field, the feature film among womenco-produced by actress Frances McDormand, in addition to being selected among the best films finalists, it obtained the second nomination for adapted screenplay director Sarah Polley (away from her). Still curious is the case of Catherine Martin, capable of scoring in three categories elvis (costume, production and set design), in a very rare case. Along with the feat of Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh (All everywhere at once), Cate Blanchett (Venice and Golden Globes-winning actress award) defends an iconic character in tar: the first music director of a distinguished German orchestra.

At the same time he reiterated his attention to talents such as Martin McDonagh, Inisherin’s banshees (and also the award-winning Three ads for one crime) and Todd Field (best director nominee for tarand remembered by intimate sins And within four walls), the Oscar embraced an unexpected age issue with actor Bill Nighy, nominated for life (inspired by To live, made in 1952 by Akira Kurosawa). Now in the field of best international films, Argentina, 1985, at the eighth chance of a film by the brothers, is attempting a third Oscar for the country, after the victories of The Official Story and The secret of your eyes. Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival, the Belgian close dispute again with a feature film by veteran Jerzy Skolimowski, commander of AND THE, Polish tape about an omniscient and omnipresent donkey of the journey of part of the European population. Among the animations, victory seems certain with the vision of Mexican anointed Guillermo del Toro (from the shape of water and the recent the alley of the nightmare) for the teachings of Pinocchio. In the category, del Toro has to beat the beast of the sea (Netflix attraction) and even a Pixar-Disney title — Red: Growing up is a beast.
